Air Canada flight bound for Vancouver makes emergency landing at Cancun International

Cancun, Q.R. — An Air Canada plane was forced to make an emergency landing at the Cancun Airport shortly after takeoff Monday. Flight 933 left the Cancun tarmac on time at 6:15 p.m. bound for Vancouver when it was forced to turn around.

The Air Canada plane carrying 146 passengers made an emergency landing after suffering a mechanical failure. The fault that caused its return to Cancun International was reported to be in the landing gear. Despite the mechanical failure, the plane successfully landed at the Cancun airport.

The Canadian aircraft remained on a runway waiting to be towed. According to Cancun airport managing company Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), the plane remained on the runway while airport personnel carried out the procedures to tow the aircraft.

The pilots’ decision to return to Cancun was due to security protocols, they said. None of the passengers on board were in danger at any time.

Due to the mechanical failure, flight 933 to Vancouver was cancelled. Passengers were eventually boarded on other flights.
