Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Aguakan has begun drainage work on a popular pedestrian-only area of central Playa del Carmen. The company is hoping to right the wrongs that have seen the city’s popular Fifth Avenue left under water after heavy rains.
Mayor Lili Campos said the work began Tuesday near the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood. She said the company is undertaking the project in response to ongoing reports of drain overflow.
She said it is a problem that has been ongoing for years. Campos said the project will be an adaptation that will allow wastewater to be channeled to the 88th Street sump and no longer “to the streets” of Fifth Avenue.
Aguakan will work to resolve the drain overflows from 72nd Street to 110th Street on Fifth Avenue and 10th Avenue.
