Aggressor sentenced to more than 10 years after leaving Playa del Carmen neighbor paraplegic

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Rodrigo Galán has been sentenced to 10 years and 11 months in prison for beating his neighbor. The incident, which happened in a Playa del Carmen housing complex in 2017, left the victim, his neighbor, a paraplegic.

The January 2017 attack was captured on video by the victim’s family.

The sentence was handed down Wednesday after the victim, Roberto González, waited more than seven years for justice after his aggressor hide behind Amparos. The State Attorney General reported the sentence of “10 years and 11 months in prison for Rodrigo “N” for the crime of qualified injuries to the detriment of a male victim.

“Rodrigo “N” was convicted for events that occurred on January 20, 2017, when he received a call from his wife about an altercation she had with a neighbor. The now convicted man arrived at the victim’s home, located in Residencial La Joya, aboard a pickup truck.

“The now convicted man got out of his vehicle and, upon seeing the victim leaving his home, went towards him and hit him, causing him to fall backwards to the ground, where he continued to attack him until his wife arrived and asked him to stop.

“As a result of the attack, the victim was left paraplegic and was transferred to Mexico City for medical attention.”

The initial altercation between the victim, Roberto González and his neighbor’s wife was over her dog being permitted to run off leash inside the residential complex.
