Additional policing added to Playa del Carmen beach and tourist areas over weekend

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Additional policing was added to Playa del Carmen beaches and tourist areas over the weekend to match the increased flow of visitors.

The Secretary of Public Security activated the additional police presence in the tourist areas. In a news brief, the agency said Fifth Avenue, Tenth Avenue and the central beach areas were the main points of reinforced surveillance.

Additional police were also sent to shopping malls, hotels and restaurants for their Centinela and Acero security programs. Operation Hierro was added to ensure security around bank branches and ATMs.

Officers participating in the additional security operations are part of Vive Seguro Solidaridad, security operations in coordination with the National Guard, the Secretary of the Navy, the Secretary of National Defense and the Secretary of Public Security of the State.

During the long weekend, additional security elements were also out patrolling busy Cancun streets and beaches with random inspections.
