Cancun, Q.R. — Net sales of the 20 affiliated developments in the Association of Vacation and Tourist Complexes (Acotur) grew 3.5 percent during 2019, reports the head of the association.
Maurició Carreón Lavalle, the outgoing president of the Asociación de Complejos Vacacionales y Turísticos (Acotur) says last year, timeshare sales grew by 3.5 percent and that this year, they anticipate an 11 percent increase in vacation memberships for the region.
He reports that vacation memberships (timeshare) sales went from $748 million USD to $771 million USD last year and that for 2020, they expect to reach $882 million USD based on information collected by its affiliates, who have experienced a very positive start to the year, he said.
The newly appointed Acotur president Alberto Solís Martínez, also reported that the holiday sector will continue its growth trend during 2020 with the opening of seven new developments in destinations such as Cancun, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Xcaret, Chemuyil and Punta Sam.
The new president congratulated Carreón Lavalle and the members of the 2018-2020 team for the work done during his administration which allowed Acotur to position itself, in a short time, as one of the largest associations within the vacation industry in Mexico.
“A lot was done in these two years thanks to the effort, time and team participation of all of us who make up Acotur. This new committee is committed to continue working in favor of this group and maintaining leadership in the holiday industry in the Mexican Caribbean,” said Solís Martínez.
The hotel developments associated with Acotur registered an average occupation rate of 83 percent in 2019, accounted for 53 sales rooms and generated around 55,000 jobs. Its holiday clubs have 773,299 members with an influx of 3 million visitors every year.
Regarding the new openings being considered for this year, Solís Martínez said that the Cancun Dreams and Now Riviera Maya (Unlimited Vacation Club by AMResorts), Gamma Isla Mujeres, Gamma Playa del Carmen and Aqua Chemuyil (Posadas), Garza Blanca Resort & Spa in Punta Sam (TAFER) and Grupo Xcaret, will open new developments.
