Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A 60-year-old man has reportedly died from severe head trauma after being physically assaulted outside a Playa del Carmen bar. The assault took place around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning outside a club along Fifth Avenue and 14th Street in the city’s center.
The man, identified as Robert “T”, is alleged to have approached the establishment to ask them to turn down their music. Details leading up to the assault remain unknown, however, the 60-year-old man was reportedly beaten and rushed to hospital with severe head trauma from which he later died.
According to preliminary information obtained, after requesting the club turn down their music, Robert “T”, along with several of the club’s waiters and doormen (bouncers), became involved in an altercation which lead to him being physically assaulted.
The man was admitted to the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen at 4:52 a.m. where he died shortly before 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. It is not known if Robert “T” was a tourist or resident.
Neither municipal or state officials have provided any comment or details surrounding the incident.
