Hopelchén, Campeche — More than 25 people have been injured with reports of at least six deaths after a public transport bus rolled over on its Campeche-Iturbide route.
The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. Monday with La Fiscalía General del Estado de Campeche announcing that an investigation has begun into the traffic accident where an autobús belonging to Servicio Público Federal (SUR) went off the road and overturned.
The state reports that a least six people have been killed and 27 injured, however, the exact number of injured remains unknown since the accident victims were taken to several different hospitals and their outcomes not all fully reported.
The C-5 command center received the call of an accident along the Hopelchén-Dzibalché-Iturbide state highway, who forwarded the information to the State Investigation Agency. When police arrived, they found the SUR bus on its side with broken windows and several ejected passengers laying along the roadway.
While the investigation into the accident remains ongoing, reports say that the driver allegedly lost control of the bus when taking a sharp corner at excessive speed.
