Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced in a press conference 278 million pesos earmarked for road repairs in 2025. Mercado says the money has been set aside for the repaving of 12 main avenues in the city of Playa del Carmen.
“The paving that was carried out in the municipality in previous years was done with a thickness of less than 1 centimeter without respecting the minimum quality standards that are between 5 and 7 centimeters. This is six times below the necessary standard,” denounced Mercado.
The Mayor explained that the 278 million pesos will be applied to the repaving of Constituyentes, Loros, Puerto Aventuras, Tecnológico, Chemuyil, Mayapan, Flor del Ciruelo, Lilis, CTM between 125 and Lilis Avenues as well as 115, 10 between 38 and 12 and 28 de Julio.
During her press conference, she reiterated that her administration is characterized by being present where it is most needed.
“We are not an office government. We are a territorial government, which listens, works and resolves. We will not rest until we guarantee decent and safe streets for everyone. This government is committed to listening to and responding to citizens. Together we will transform Solidaridad,” she said.
Accompanied by the secretaries of Public Services and Infrastructure and Public Works, Julieta Martín and Doris Aké, respectively, she added that 3,576 potholes have been identified throughout the city.
Mercado reported that within the first two months of her government, 1,072 potholes have been addressed by 10 brigades. Those brigades, she said, work in two shifts to fill city potholes.
“We know that this problem is not minor, but as a territorial government, we have decided to be at the forefront working in the streets together with our people. We are here to solve, not to avoid, the challenges.
“In these almost 60 days of government, we have faced a climate that has not played in our favor. The constant rains have left us with only 40 effective days of work,” she said.
