18-meter tall metal column collapses on southern worksite

Costa Maya, Q.R. — A metal column and scaffolding on a Maya Train work site collapsed Monday morning. Two people near the area during the collapse were hurt.

The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. on a worksite area in the community of Xul-Ha. Other construction workers rushed to the site where they found the two injured men.

Two pair were working on scaffolding near the 18-meter tall metal structure when it collapsed. The men were assembling the steel column when it unexpectedly gave way taking with it the scaffolding they were standing on.

On site medical personnel treated both men for minor injuries. There is no word on what caused the collapse.
