Compostela, Nayariat — At least 18 people died and 33 injured Saturday after a bus rolled into a ravine. The accident happened at kilometer 59 of the federal highway 200 Tepic-Puerto Vallarta, in the municipality of Compostela, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the bus has left Guadalajara, Jalisco, and was heading to Guayabitos, in Compostela at the time of the accident. Authorities reported locating 11 women and seven men dead at the scene. The injured, which included 10 children, were transferred to different hospitals.
The Prosecutor’s Office did not report on the cause of the accident.
On social media, Nayariat Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro posted “The Government of Guadalajara remains attentive to the needs of the families affected by the accident. We are offering support in the transfers for the injured with ambulances and the Zeus helicopter of the Guadalajara Police.”
