11 dead after fatal bus crash in State of Mexico

Ecatepec de Morelos, State of Mexico — A roadway accident between three buses has claimed the lives of at least 11 and has left 20 injured.

At last count, 11 people were declared killed and 20 injured after a moving passenger bus crashed into two parked passenger buses. The accident happened at 7:30 p.m. along the Mexico-Pachuca highway in Ecatepec when a moving bus hit two buses who were parked at a base.

The fatal impact killed 11 people, one of whom was a 5-year-old minor child.

Ecatepec City Council reported that during the rescue work, the lifeless bodies of eight males and three females were found. Civil Protection Urban Rescue staff of the municipality worked throughout the night to remove trapped bodies from inside the twisted metal.

Reports indicates that when the driver of the moving bus tried to pass the others, he smashed into the back of the buses that had stopped to board passengers. Speed is said to be a factor in the deadly collision.
