Mexicali, B. C. — With an estimated investment of $14 million in equipment, corrugated manufacturing plant Smurfit Kappa, held a ribbon cutting and start-up ceremony at its Mexicali plant.
With this advance, the company intends to have greater scope for supplying its customers.
“It is with great enthusiasm that I share with you that today we inaugurate our four most recent investments, a total of $14 million USD which will increase our production capacity at Smurfit Kappa Mexicali by more than 30 percent,” said Osmara Arellano, Plant Manager of Smurfit Kappa in Mexicali.
“I thank everyone for their trust and support, especially Juan Pablo Pérez Chávez (CEO), Carlos Jiménez, Ulises Rodríguez and all our collaborators. We will continue working to provide the highest level of service and quality to our clients, to continue creating the future together,” said Osmara Arellano.
The mayor of Mexicali, Norma Alicia Bustamante, and the Irish Ambassador to Mexico Maeve von Heynitz, were part of the ceremony.
“Mexico is an important market for Smurfit Kappa,” said Laurent Sellier, Smurfit Kappa chief executive of the Americas.
“We have invested substantial resources both in paper machines and corrugated plants while increasing our network to support the country’s economy and our customers’ needs.
“This important investment will lead us to increase capacity and productivity so we’re ready for the fast pace of our customers’ businesses. We will continue to invest as part of our firm commitment to Mexico and its growing market,” he added.
The company, which has operated in Mexico since 1957 and had a presence in Baja California for more than 10 years, has been increasing production capacity in the country, investing more than $350 million in its operations.
